We’ve all heard the phrase: “A penny saved is a penny earned.” At a time when the costs of housing, groceries and childcare have risen nationally, this phrase rings especially true. At The Tepper Foundation, we have a longstanding commitment to work towards a future where everyone has their basic needs met and families and communities have the opportunity to thrive. To make this a reality, we support grantees like WorkMoney, who are dedicated to improving the everyday lives of Americans. To date, they have helped over 8 million people—through their free membership program—get connected with financial aid and free assistance services. Read more to find out five ways WorkMoney is helping Americans save money:
  1. Food. WorkMoney offers several ways to help their members save on everyday food costs. Whether through their school lunch program, grocery bill-saving app, local food pantry location tool or their nutrition program that connects families to SNAP and WIC assistance, WorkMoney is dedicated to helping keep food on the table for more Americans.

  2. Utility bills. Depending on the climate, cooling and heating a house may be a substantial portion of Americans’ monthly bills. WorkMoney helps members upgrade their homes to be more energy efficient, get connected to one of their electrification experts or acquire financial support for their monthly utility bill.

  3. Tax filing. Tax season can bring added stress to already busy lives. WorkMoney aims to lighten that burden by informing members about common tax credits like EITC and CTC that are potentially worth thousands of dollars in refunds and connecting them with their free tax filing services.

  4. Healthcare. Through frequent outreach, WorkMoney alerts members of the enrollment deadlines for government-supported healthcare, shares ways to save money on prescriptions and connects people to physical and mental healthcare providers in their community.

  5. Family care. From childcare to elder care to pet care, WorkMoney has resources to alleviate the financial weight of these extra expenses. They ensure that families are aware of their statewide childcare assistance programs, provide support for elders and caregivers, share resources on adoption and foster care and more.
